Project Architect/PM (Boundary Works)
About Us: Boundary Works is a design and development services company that focuses on residential and hospitality projects (80% Hospitality, 20% Residential). Our work includes traditional architectural services as well as development services: site planning, concept creation, due diligence support, programming, and operational studies. Low-impact design, community engagement, and sustainable design choices are a critical thread that runs throughout all of our work. Lastly, we are committed to building an inclusive and supportive environment that values diverse perspectives, provides opportunities for growth, and encourages professional development.
About You: We are actively looking for a new team member for either a 50% contract or full time role, with experience that matches a typical PM/Job Captain/Architect II level. The right candidate for this position will be a curious generalist with 6-10 years of relevant experience that is excited to learn more about the developer side of the business, client interaction, and learning how to run a small firm.
We will be as generous as we can be with time, client exposure, knowledge, and bonuses for the right person who wants to learn, and has the skills to take a drawing set and run with it.
The following is a list of responsibilities for this specific role.
- Communicate ideas with freehand sketches, develop design concepts, and develop complex details for contract documents.
- Lead development of well rounded technical drawing sets at all project phases: SD, DD, and CD.
- Assist with production of rendered presentation documents as needed.
- Continue to grow your knowledge of the entitlement process, utilities, zoning, and building codes.
- Communicate effectively, demonstrate professional writing skills, and organize information with graphic clarity.
- Manage projects as a PM, assist in proposal development, and eventually business development.
- Maintain an awareness of existing clients’ business objectives, target audience, market trends, and ensure that appropriate opportunities are identified to generate further demand for BW services.
Professional Characteristics: Demonstrate sound ethics and good judgment; inspire trust; exhibit values compatible with those of the firm; develop and nurture our positive relationships with existing client contacts; contribute to the profession and local community.
Location: This role will be a hybrid remote position with weekly in-person meetings in San Francisco, and site visits to various projects. Currently we meet one day per week at the Ferry Building as members of Shack15.
Your Qualifications:
- A professional degree in Architecture (Master’s or 5-year B.Arch)
- Licensure is not required but strongly preferred
- 5-10 years of architectural or related experience is required.
- Hospitality experience is preferred.
- Strong project management and analytical skills.
- Software skills: AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup or similar, Revit is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- A great design sensibility and a strong portfolio that includes more technical CD drawings.
