Project Manager/Architect (MEI Architects)
MEI Architects is a San Francisco–based practice delivering civic, healthcare, and complex urban projects for public and institutional clients. Our work includes projects such as the San Francisco Chinese Hospital, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Portsmouth Square Improvement Project, and San Francisco International Airport—each requiring thoughtful design, technical rigor, and close coordination with agencies and stakeholders.
We are seeking a Project Manager / Project Architect to lead projects from concept through construction and play a key role in shaping both project outcomes and the firm’s growth.
This is a senior leadership position for a licensed architect who is equally comfortable with design direction, client leadership, and project execution, and who is ready to take ownership of complex, high-impact work.

Responsibilities
- Lead conceptual design and establish overall project vision while maintaining design integrity
- Direct and manage multidisciplinary teams, including delegation, coordination, and quality control across all phases
- Serve as primary decision-making contact for clients, consultants, and public agencies
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, and fee management to ensure project performance and profitability
- Provide design and technical leadership, ensuring alignment with project goals, constraints, and approvals
- Head project pursuits, proposals, and presentations in collaboration with firm leadership
- Mentor junior staff and help cultivate a strong, collaborative design culture
- Guide construction administration strategy, including RFIs, submittals, and contractor coordination
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or related field
- 10+ years of professional experience
- California architectural license required
- Proven experience leading projects through construction
- Experience working with public agencies and complex urban projects preferred
- Strong proficiency in Revit/BIM and Microsoft Office
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to balance design excellence with technical execution and business objectives
Compensation / Benefits
- Salary range: $120,000 – $165,000 annually, depending on experience, licensure, and project leadership track record
- Annual performance bonus typically ranging from 3%–10% of base salary, based on individual contribution, project outcomes, and firm performance
