Project Manager I (San Francisco Unified School District)

Overview of the Position
As Project Manager I you will report to the Director of Facilities Design and Construction, be a part of the SFUSD Facilities Department and a district leader in the implementation of the Facilities Capital Improvement Program. You will help to lead Facilities Design and Construction Department transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in our long-term, city-wide North Star, Vision, Values and Guardrails. We want someone who will plan, organize and supervise activities for design and construction of school projects within the SFUSD. Act as liaison between the District, school site administrators, parents and staff, architects and contractors to assure the authorized projects are completed in accordance with approved policies and procedures within budget and without delay.
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate
- Working level of AutoCAD computer drafting
- Registration as a licensed architect in the state of California
- Experience in public school construction (K-12)
- Ability to supervise, prepare, or participate in the design and production of final architectural contract documents for a wide variety of small construction and maintenance projects.
- Familiarity with the work of the Division of the State Architect (DSA), Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibilities Guidelines (ADAAG), and California accessibility requirements that are in Title 24 of California Code of Regulations.
Responsibilities
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of
duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
- Plans, organizes, directs and controls all parts of school projects (K-12) from concept through design and construction to close out of the project contracts.
- Prepares and monitors project budgets, including support for obtaining funding.
- Coordinates work of a multi-disciplinary development team across organizational boundaries, including design architects and construction professionals. Coordinates hazmat abatement construction activities with District’s hazmat consultants. Controls project cost and schedule. Reviews change orders.
- Makes presentations to the school sites to inform them of the project progress. Ensures that contractors are maintaining safe work sites and that the needs of the students, teachers and administrative staff at the school sites are being protected.
- Ensures timely DSA closeout of school projects by working with the architects, contractors, construction managers, inspectors, regulating authorities, and District Buildings and Grounds staff to resolve punch list items and other final activities
- Surveys school buildings, evaluate code compliance, and recommends policy solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering or planning plus four years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR
- A Bachelor's Degree in another field plus six years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
- Eight years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
- California registration as professional engineer or architect.
Substitution: Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year-for-year basis.

SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $134,939 - $183,656 annually, commensurate with experience in a similar position.
