Firm Profile

Jensen Architects is an award-winning, 30-person architecture and design studio located in downtown San Francisco. Our work spans cultural, educational, residential, workplace, and mixed-use projects of varying scales and complexity.

We are a design-oriented practice with a critical approach to architecture, an interest in contemporary culture, and a curiosity about how new ideas and innovative construction techniques can shape the built environment. We believe good design is both thoughtful and pragmatic - balancing design ambition with the realities of budget, schedule, code, construction, and long-term performance.

Our studio offers workplace flexibility, with staff working in the office Tuesday through Thursday. Applicants must be located in the Bay Area and currently authorized to work in the United States.

Position Description

We are seeking a Project Architect with 10+ years of professional experience to lead complex, design-driven projects from concept through construction.

The ideal candidate brings strong design instincts, technical expertise, and the ability to guide a project and team through the realities of delivery. You should be comfortable moving between design thinking and technical problem-solving, with a passion for both the larger architectural idea and the details that bring it to life.

As a Project Architect, you will collaborate closely with project teams, consultants, clients, and firm leadership. You will lead design work through all phases of the project from concept to execution. Beyond project work, this position will contribute to the continued development of the practice by working with firm leadership on strategic initiatives, firm-wide standards, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

The available position is full-time with salary and benefits commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications. We’re looking for an energetic and motivated designer to join our collaborative studio; successful candidates will possess the following:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture
• 10+ years of experience in a professional architecture office
• Experience leading complex, design-driven projects
• Positive attitude and comfort working in a collaborative manner
• Exceptional design aptitude and a passion for design excellence
• Strong technical knowledge of architectural detailing, building materials, construction methods, and building codes
• Comprehensive understanding of the architectural design and project delivery process, including scheduling, budgeting, permitting, construction documentation, and construction administration
• Understanding of the entitlements process
• Proven ability to manage design delivery and lead project teams
• Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
• Strong drafting, 3D modeling, and presentation skills
• Positive attitude and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and consultants
• Deep working knowledge of Revit, with a minimum of five years of professional experience using the program across two to three project types and scales
