Project Architect (Eileen Gordon Design)
Eileen Gordon Design is a San Francisco Bay Area architecture firm focused on the design, detail, and execution of highly crafted single family homes. We are committed to delivering quality work from design through construction administration.
We are looking for a motivated, organized and dependable individual experienced in residential design and detailing who is eager to collaborate, solve complex challenges, and grow as an architect. This position is responsible for managing all phases of a project from schematic design through construction. The ideal candidate will have an artist’s feel for proportion and scale along with a practical appreciation for and interest in the methods and technical requirements of construction. You will be working directly with the principal to create conceptual design presentations, design development drawings, permit sets, and to draft construction documents; coordinating with civil, structural, mechanical, media, lighting, and other consultants and contractors to develop specific details; and attending site visits in the course of design and construction administration.
Responsibilities include
- Design: Communicate ideas with sketches; develop design concepts; understand and integrate the effects of other disciplines on design; design at all scales (i.e. site planning, aesthetics and detailing).
- Technical / Production: Develop construction details; understand specifications and their role in construction documents; direct and / or participate actively in project teams; organize construction documents; demonstrate CAD/ BIM fluency and manage related production; coordinate consultant work.
- Codes / Approvals: Understand planning, zoning, and building codes and their relationship to building design. Carry out code research and negotiation.
- Permits: Apply for planning and building permits and communicate with Municipal departments to obtain permits.
- Contract Administration and Construction Phase Services: Understand the architect / owner / contractor roles and responsibilities in California; attend site meetings, review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and work with the design and construction teams to execute the construction documents.
- Communication: Communicate constructively and effectively with peers; demonstrate professional writing skills; organize information with graphic clarity.
We are a remote office. Applicants must be located in the Bay Area to perform site visits and occasional in-person work sessions. (Current projects range from Los Altos Hills up to Healdsburg.) Applicants must have a degree in architecture and 8+ years of experience. Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, attention to detail, and accuracy are required. Fine hand drawing and drafting abilities as well as facility with SketchUp and/ or other 3d rendering tools are appreciated.
This is a full time, salaried position with benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k, and PTO. A computer will be provided as well as a stipend for phone and high-speed internet (required). We aspire to support work-life balance. Forty hours a week is expected, mainly during office hours (8:30-5:30) with the opportunity for flexible schedules when agreed upon in advance. Team zooms are held once or twice each day, and additionally as needed for cooperative work. Candidates must be eligible to work full time in the United States.
