Position Overview

The Intermediate Designer will participate in the design and development of custom single-family residences and select Architect of Record projects, working in collaboration with outside design architects and project teams. Team members are typically involved in projects from initial concept through construction, providing the opportunity to develop a well-rounded understanding of both design and the process of bringing architecture to life.

The position includes close collaboration with the firm’s leadership and project teams on design, documentation, permitting, consultant coordination, and construction administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the development of projects from conceptual design through construction administration.
• Collaborate with leadership and project teams in the development and refinement of design ideas.
• Produce thoughtful, accurate, and comprehensive architectural drawings and construction documents in Revit.
• Research applicable local codes, zoning requirements, and permitting requirements.
• Assist with consultant coordination and communication with clients, contractors, and other project collaborators.
• Support projects through planning, permitting, and other jurisdictional approval processes.
• Participate in construction administration, including site visits and the resolution of design and construction issues in the field.
• Contribute to multiple projects and phases of work concurrently while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Two to six years of professional architectural experience, including high-end custom residential work.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.
• Strong architectural design skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
• Experience with the design, documentation, and construction administration of wood-frame residential buildings.
• Working knowledge of the California Building Code.
• Proficiency in Revit is required.
• Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance responsibilities across multiple projects.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small studio environment.
• A thoughtful, curious, and creative approach to architectural problem-solving.

The firm maintains a hybrid weekly schedule that balances in-person collaboration in our San Francisco studio with designated work-from-home days. Team members should also be available for occasional project site visits throughout the Bay Area.
