Designing for Well-being: Cold Refuge and the Urban Experience
The AIASF Knowledge Community: Urban Design + Infrastructure Committee (UDIC) is pleased to present "Cold Refuge", a new documentary by Judy Irving (The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill). This film will kick-off a series of upcoming events centered around the theme of ‘Well-being in the City’ by the UDIC. We invite design professionals and the public at large to consider the value of designing public spaces that support well-being for our communities whether it be natural spaces to gather, play and recreate; event venues to celebrate and learn; or world class health services to thrive and heal. Future events include a Forest Bathing experience, a walking tour of Mission Bay, and more – highlighting the various amenities that San Francisco offers today and ideas for the future.
"Cold Refuge" provides an intimate look at the physical, psychological, and spiritual effects of swimming in cold water in the San Francisco Bay. The beautiful imagery and sensitive portraits of the swimmers, who regularly brave the cold water for their own personal reasons, will leave you with a sense of admiration and the importance of well-being through the connection with nature. Judy will be present for a Q&A and discussion after the screening. Please join us for a memorable evening. Light snacks and drinks will be on hand.
