The Space Architect introduces us to the trailblazing American architect Constance Adams, whose groundbreaking work at NASA reimagined how humans might live in outer space. A single mother of two and punk rock rebel, her understanding of how humans shape and are shaped by their environment is nothing short of revolutionary.
Filmed just four days before her death at age 53, The Space Architect captures Adams reflecting on her extraordinary career and her final, passionate focus towards Earth—where she hoped to apply her knowledge to address the urgent challenges of the climate crisis through The Mothership Project: A Blueprint for Climate Adaptation.
At once heart-wrenching and hopeful, the film offers a moving meditation on a life driven by purpose and curiosity.
The film screening will be followed by a one-on-one conversation with the filmmaker, Rebecca Carpenter and host/interviewer Lisa Boquiren, and a Q&A with the audience.
Speakers:
Rebecca Carpenter is a Storyteller, Visual Artist and Educator. In addition to being a member of the Clio and Golden Telly winning campaign team for TACKLE CAN WAIT, Carpenter’s documentary REQUIEM FOR A RUNNING BACK has been critically acclaimed in national and international screenings and is now available on Amazon Prime.
A design thinker with formal training as a visual artist, her passion is creating science-inspired provocations for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to Title I schools. Her visual art is in private collections on three continents and she has exhibited at bG Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, CA, and the LA Art Show.
Lisa Boquiren is a design & architecture aficionada working with creative businesses on brand, marketing and communications strategy. She also produces and moderates convergent conversations, most recently Common Threads: Cross-Discipline Conversations (San Francisco Design Week 2026). Her editorial work appears in SHLTR, SPACES, and AIA San Francisco's Small Firms, Great Projects for which she serves as editorial advisor. Previously, as AIA San Francisco Communications Committee Chair, Lisa helped conceptualize and produce events on women in practice. And while at the San Francisco Design Center, Lisa and her team produced an annual fundraiser benefiting the Center for Architecture + Design.
