DIALOGUES: Ivy Ross + Lucy McRae

The Center for Architecture + Design (CA+D) introduces DIALOGUES, a new global conversation series exploring how design intersects with culture, society, and the contemporary urban experience. The 2025–2026 season examines concepts of the body in design and architecture, how humans physically relate to the built world, and how experience is shaped through design, technology, and interaction.

Dialogue 03 features Ivy Ross, Chief Design Officer for Consumer Devices at Google and Lucy McRae, who leads an art-research studio in Los Angeles investigating how emerging technologies impact human evolution.

Speakers

Ivy Ross

Ivy Ross is the Chief Design Officer for Consumer Devices at Google.  Ivy and her team created the design language for the Google hardware products that launched in 2017. Previously, she held executive positions ranging from head of product design and development to chief marketing officer and president of several companies, including Calvin Klein, Swatch, Coach, Mattel, Bausch & Lomb, Old Navy, and Gap. In her earlier career as a jewelry designer, Ivy opened a store in New York City that Vogue called “one of the most influential” of the 1980s. Her innovative metalwork in jewelry is in the permanent collections of 12 international museums, including the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York City. She has received a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts grant and the Diamond International Award for her creative designs. 

Lucy McRae

Lucy McRae leads an art-research studio in Los Angeles investigating how emerging technologies impact human evolution. Her artisanal approach to technology brings science to street level— creating imaginary worlds, in sculpture, film and conceptual fashion, exploring who we are, and where we are headed. In parallel to her gallery and museum-focused art practice, Lucy thrives as a strategic and versatile thought partner to brands, Institutes, and Hollywood Writers' rooms, including Blade Runner 2099. She is a visiting Professor at SCI-Arc, co-directing a futures incubator. Lucy is a World Economic Forum, Young Global Leader and TED Fellow.
