University of California Berkeley Grimes Engineering Center
Organization Overview
The Grimes Engineering Center transforms a 1980s Brutalist building into
an interdisciplinary student hub. Utilizing adaptive reuse to reduce
embodied carbon by 42%, the design features a transparent pavilion and a
pioneering seismic system. By exposing these technical innovations, the
center becomes a resilient, living laboratory for the engineering community.
