Organization Overview

For over three decades, Jensen Architects has partnered with visionary
leaders to shape the cultural landscape of the San Francisco Bay Area,
building on a legacy of radical design, advancing inclusivity, and community
impact. Recognized with over 40 AIA awards, their work thoughtfully
integrates into the urban fabric while reinterpreting the regional vernacular.
Jensen Architects specializes in reimagining social infrastructure, often
revitalizing overlooked sites for civic use. In San Francisco’s Hunters Point
district, their design for the new India Basin Waterfront Park turned a post-
industrial brownfield into a vibrant public space, linking greenways and
restoring equity to its surrounding neighborhoods. In San Francisco’s
Chinatown, they transformed the 100-year-old Willie “Woo Woo” Wong
playground into an award-winning, indoor-outdoor community hub with
pathways, stairs and ramps to ease the way for all.
As cultural institutions face mounting challenges, their practice deepens the
connection between architecture and the arts through public engagement
and innovative real estate models. From transforming the former campus of
the San Francisco Art Institute, to contributing to leading cultural institutions
like SFMOMA, their designs foster public connection and long-term
resilience. Collaborations with the Minnesota Street Project, CounterPulse
Theater and Arion Press have strengthened cultural anchors across the
city.
Jensen Architects' fosters a culture of curiosity, inclusion, and shared knowledge
through field visits, training, and internal committees on sustainability and
technology. Jensen Architects’ principals teach at local universities, lead
equity-focused design panels, and mentor the next generation, reinforcing
our commitment to a more connected and creative built environment.
