Enchanted Hills Camp

Following the 2017 Napa wildfires, Enchanted Hills Camp's Lower Camp
sustained significant impacts, prompting a comprehensive revision of the
master plan. The project team, preserving the existing facilities, advanced
a complete redesign of Forest Village to create a resilient, educational, and
community-oriented campus. The redesigned portions of camp include a
Dining Hall and Commercial/Teaching Kitchen, a STEM Center, a Hillside
Staff Village, eleven new cabins, two bathhouses, an amphitheater, and
storage barns. The master plan also includes a robust, climate-responsive
site infrastructure program, featuring expanded water storage, dedicated
fire-water hydrants, a solar array, and underground power distribution.
Collectively, these projects enhance safety and address societal
challenges and inclusivity while preserving natural landscapes and ensuring
operational resilience in the face of wildfire risk and future climate change.
Our team engaged extensively with blind and low-vision campers, families,
staff, and LightHouse leadership, ensuring the final design directly reflects
the community’s lived experiences and aspirations. Tactile models and
drawings alongside rich narratives were utilized to foster accessible
communication with all stakeholders, promoting meaningful participation
and ownership of the design outcome.
Reimagining the physical environment to more directly serve the goals of
the camp will not only enhance the features and qualities campers already
value but will also allow the camp to evolve over time and to better serve
its future users.
