The Lodge at the Presidio adapts an 1897 enlisted men’s barracks, prominently located on the main Parade Ground, into a contemporary 42-room hotel. The rehabilitation celebrates the building’s historic character and its setting in the former-military-post–turned–national-park, and introduces an elegant array of contemporary guest accommodations and amenities.
The jury appreciated this project for its thoughtful and focused approach to preservation. The technical restoration is very successful, with strengths from the planning through to the execution of the shell and its masonry.
