Project Architect - Residential (Koch Architects)

Koch Architects|KA is a full-service architecture and interior design firm specializing in residential projects, including new construction and large-scale renovations. We are a passionate group of visual thinkers dedicated to creating thoughtful, well-crafted, authentic designs. Each project is carefully guided from initial concept through all stages of design, documentation, and construction.
Our office is located in West Berkeley; the culture is casual, friendly, and collaborative, while the work remains rigorous in quality, detail, and execution.
This is a full-time, on-site position for candidates with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in an architectural firm, and ideally 5+ years focused on custom residential projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead projects and team members from schematics through construction administration
- Collaborate with the Principal and team members to prepare 2D and 3D design documents (Vectorworks, Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp modeling, hand drawing)
- Create, edit, and oversee the production of comprehensive construction document sets
- Manage project correspondence, schedules, and budgets
- Conduct planning and building code research
- Research and specify materials, assemblies, and building systems
- Coordinate work with consultants, contractors, and clients throughout all project phases
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited U.S. architecture program
- California licensure preferred
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with demonstrated success leading client interaction and team collaboration
- Proven experience leading the design and documentation of complex, high-end residential projects
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently, collaboratively, and directly with firm leadership
- Leading the coordination of work with consultants & contractors, including references who will speak to this ability
- Construction Administration experience, including site visits and field coordination
- Working knowledge of the California Building Code (CBC)
