Architectural Resources Group (ARG) is a nationally recognized historic preservation, architecture, planning, and conservation practice with projects that range from adaptive reuse to new construction, resulting in award-winning work for hospitality, housing, parks, cultural, higher education, and civic clients.

We seek a highly creative, enthusiastic, and detailed-oriented Marketing and Communications Manager to become a thriving part of our team, based in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Portland. The ideal candidate will work with our leadership as an instrumental part of ARG’s marketing, business development, and communications – promoting the firm to multiple audiences. The Manager role is highly influential, acting as a liaison with firm leadership, business development, external collaborators and media.

We seek a self-motivated multi-tasker with excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills and, importantly, passionate about historic preservation, architecture and design. You are a storyteller and a problem-solver with an innate ability to triage deadlines and handle a workload that consistently ebbs and flows. You possess a proven ability to manage a team, set priorities, meet deadlines, mentor, and confirm that ARG standards are paramount.

Because of our fast-paced environment, we seek a candidate who is comfortable wearing many hats, solving many challenges, and communicating and managing expectations early and effectively. Candidates must be experienced and engaged in the field of architecture and design, along with a desire to thrive in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

Business Development

  • Contribute strategically and tactically related to client development
  • Understand trends in the industry, competitor due diligence, and future leads for the firm
  • Identify teaming opportunities and stay abreast of industry developments
  • Lead our Go / No Go process, helping ARG make strong business decisions
  • Report and present weekly to firm leadership regarding deadlines and new opportunities

Portfolio and Pitch Development

  • Lead the design and development of compelling storytelling and collateral in support of new commissions and visibility for the firm
  • Direct and manage Marketing Coordinators, interns, freelancers in the pursuit of marketing efforts
  • Track performance of proposals (conversion, client debriefs) and help us optimize what is working and pivot as necessary
  • Undertake appropriate market research on current and future clients
  • Communicate our firm’s business strengths to potential new clients, but also be able to emphasize an understanding of design principles
  • Confirm that our content and collateral is consistently competitive and updated (CVs, imagery, narratives and storytelling, facts, metrics, client and jury quotes, awards and publications)
  • Write, as needed, in layman’s terms about sophisticated and complex design concepts
  • Lead presentation crits and sit in the seat of the client, anticipate selection committee questions and recommend ways to satisfy those questions.

Digital Marketing, PR, Awards, and Photography

  • Manage the firm's digital channels including social media and our website
  • Utilizing existing templates, keep the firm’s website and social media consistently up to date with the latest images, text, and news about ARG
  • Coordinate with our PR consultant to assist with ARG visibility. Assist with client and photographer approvals and permissions
  • Keep our Awards calendar up to date and alert firm leadership about upcoming deadlines well in advance. Make recommendations about which programs we pursue and which projects we emphasize.
  • Collaborate with the project design teams to create submissions
  • Work with design teams to coordinate photo shoots, develop cost sharing with consultants, communicate post production notes to the photographer, and disseminate final photography to all channels

Brand Management

  • Act as an ambassador for ARG with our consultant community, clients, conference organizers, media, prospective new hires, and students
  • Be rigorous regarding ARG’s identity and graphic standards across all collateral

Event Coordination

  • Coordinate with ARG’s PR consultant on firm-related events, seminars, workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities to expand ARG’s presence with potential clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Historic Preservation, Architecture, Real Estate, or related field
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and digital marketing tools (content management systems, digital asset management tools, google analytics, project management platforms) or an enthusiastic ability to quickly learn to use them
  • 5-7 years experience in marketing roles, preferably within the historic preservation, architecture, design, or construction industry
  • A passion for historic places
  • Proven excellence in storytelling and editing
  • An ability and interest in quickly conquering the learning curve and becoming familiar with our practice and portfolio
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative team environment where you will be the “go-to”
  • Relentless attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Benefits:

  • Salary range $115,000 - $135,000 per annum, commensurate with experience
