INTERMEDIATE ARCHITECT/PROJECT CAPTAIN (Demattei Wong Architecture, Inc.)

Demattei Wong Architecture, Inc. (DWA) is seeking qualified professionals to join our design/production team in our Burlingame, California office. Intermediate Project Captain/Architect is a mid-level position primarily responsible for collaborating with the design team under direct supervision of the principal architect. This position requires the ability to prepare, coordinate and oversee the development of design and construction documents for a wide range of project scope and complexity.

Position Description

A successful candidate will demonstrate technical knowledge and creative vision while working independently, or with light oversight in airport and transportation-related renovations and new build projects. Under the direction of a Senior Architect and/or Principal in Charge, the Intermediate Architect/Project Captain will successfully participate in developing concepts and presentations and advancing design solutions through all phases of work from concept through construction administration. The candidate must be initiative-taking and exhibit personal responsibility and accountability while utilizing open communication and leadership skills.

Position Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project design team on all aspects of project design and technical development through all phases of design and construction.
• Provide planning and building code research for individual projects.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the preparation and overseeing of the work of junior staff in design and construction document preparation.
• Work with and coordinate the work of all project engineers and technical consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives.
• Provide project team coordination for all phases of documentation, specifications, and material selections required for construction.
• Lead and participate in the construction administration of projects including the review of RFIs, submittals, and as-built documents.
• Participate and contribute to office activities, committees, initiatives, and learning programs.

Qualification Requirements

• A professional degree in Architecture – BS, BA, MA, BArch (Preferred).
• Registered/Licensed Architect (preferred) or working towards an architectural license.
• Minimum of 5 years professional relative experience in architecture.
• Knowledge and understanding of the California Building Code, International Building Code, and ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
• Comprehensive knowledge of construction materials, means and methods of construction, building standards, and general permit processes.
• Ability to contribute as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary project team on both design and construction documentation.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
• Highly proficient in Revit and AutoCAD. Experience/proficiency in presentation software, Bluebeam, and Newforma are preferred.
• US citizen or legal authorization to work in the US without employer sponsorship.
