Historic Preservation

The ambitious renovation and repositioning project is the building’s first major upgrade since original construction was completed in 1936. The design intent and work was performed with sensitivity to the buildings’ status as a cherished community icon. The project delicately balances this historical retrofit with more modern, energy-conscious technology such as updated toilet fixtures consuming 80 percent less water than the original toilets, and highly-efficient LED lighting fixtures. One of GSA’s main goals was to create a forward-looking and adaptable workplace. Understanding that work styles will evolve, the design reflects the potential for future changes.
