Film Series Screening: Giants Rising
Join us for our 5th film in our film series!
GIANTS RISING transports viewers deep into the heart of America’s majestic redwood forests to explore the secrets of the tallest and some of the oldest living structures on Earth. It’s an epic tale that immerses us in the wonders of these towering trees that embody biological brilliance and enduring design, while revealing the vulnerabilities that can undermine even the strongest foundations. Told through the lenses of science, culture, and public art, the film explores the many ways redwoods inspire awe and allegiance – including discoveries about these silent giants that may help us build a more resilient future.
Post-screening, Curator Richard Neill will moderate a conversation with Director Lisa Landers, Sarah Bird, and Illuminate Founder Ben Davis. Among the topics discussed will be the vital role that redwoods played in the building of San Francisco, how old growth forests offer insights for designing urban landscapes that are enduring and awe-inspiring, and the role of public art in creating awareness and activism around climate resiliency in San Francisco and other cities.
An audience Q&A and reception will follow.
