Description:

The AIASF Professional Practice Committee presents a new panel discussion on Early Input Design as part of the Integrated Practice in the 21st Century Panel Discussion Series. The discussion will cover advantages, challenges, and methods for moving traditionally deferred design and build-out efforts into earlier parts of the design process. The panel aims to answer the following common questions:

  1. How project stakeholders can participate earlier to realistically inform design;
  2. What contracts typically allow for regarding deferred design and how to manage the “cut-lines” between scopes.
  3. Practical methods and protocols to avoid unnecessary overlap;
  4. How to manage scope and risk during the life of a project;
  5. How and when to integrate design-assist and pre-construction services into a project
  6. Leveraging program updates, user input, templates, prototypes, facility guidelines, subcontractor, and GC input effectively
  7. What are some different approaches currently in use with perspectives from the owner, architect, and contractor viewpoints?
