Please join the AIA SF Historic Resources Committee for a behind-the-scenes architectural tour of Grace Cathedral. Led by Head Verger, Charles Shipley, the tour will include access to areas not typically seen by visitors including the crypt, south tower with carillon bells, and the overhead sanctuary catwalks.

Grace Cathedral sits atop Nob Hill at the former site of Charles and William Crocker’s mansions. William Crocker donated the site to the Episcopal Church after the 1906 earthquake and fire destroyed the homes. It was designed in the French Gothic style by architect Lewis Hobart, and is unique because of its exposed concrete walls. While the cornerstone was laid in 1910, the current cathedral was constructed in four building campaigns: 1928-30, 1931-34, 1939-43, 1961-64. It is the third largest Episcopal cathedral in the nation and is a San Francisco City Landmark.
