The Furniture Society, the premier educational organization focused on promoting excellence and fostering an understanding of the art of furniture and its place in the world, will host its next conference "NEXUS: Perspectives on Art, Design, Craftsmanship, and Technology" at Dogpatch Studios in San Francisco from June 14-16, 2018.
Created with designers, makers, artists, gallerists, collectors, design retailers and students in mind, the conference explores what’s next for the community of makers and collectors as the world becomes increasingly digital.
Through presentations, panels, interactive workshops, tours, and informal social events, the conference brings together the country’s most visionary designers, artisans, technologists, futurists, and entrepreneurs to illuminate, provoke, and inspire. Topics cover a broad range of concerns including the role of women in the craft, technology and design; sustainability; advanced materials; collaboration between designers and makers; shifting consumption patterns; and global craft.
Featured speakers include artist/architect/designer Allan Wexler (capstone speaker) and designer/builder/educator and founder of Project H Design and Girls Garage Emily Pilloton (keynote presenter).
