Energy + Sustainability

DeAnza College’s Media & Learning Center, one of the few large buildings in the world featuring a passive downdraft, natural-air ventilation HVAC system, will use 71 percent less energy than the regional average for higher education buildings, placing it well ahead of the AIA’s 2030 Challenge and 2015 reduction target. Housing 14 classrooms for anthropology and general education, all outfitted with new AV and communications technology, the project’s energy features are predicted to save the campus $60,000 per year while reinforcing the College’s legacy to produce buildings that educate by example. The project is on track for LEED Platinum certification.
