SUSTAINABILITY SALON SERIES

MEETING THE 2030 CHALLENGE
Tools to Fight Climate Change
www.architecture2030.org

Second Tuesday of every month:
June - November, 6:30 – 8:00 pm
AIA San Francisco, 130 Sutter Street, Suite 600
RSVP at rsvp@aiasf.org

Changing the way buildings and developments are planned, designed and constructed is a critical component in the fight against global warming. The AIA has endorsed the 2030 Challenge which seeks to achieve a dramatic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to counteract hazardous climate trends already set in motion. To learn how your firm can become a part of the solution, join us for our monthly Sustainability Salon Series. Each month explores a different aspect of the 2030 Challenge and promises to offer the necessary tools to make carbon neutral buildings a reality.

The COTE committee's monthly meeting immediately precedes the Salon. People interested in participating in the committee or helping to arrange events are highly encouraged to attend!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Rising Coastlines – What the Building Community Needs to Know
September 14, 2010 6:30pm - 8:00pm
AIA San Francisco, 130 Sutter Street, Suite 600

Climate change is altering our coastlines. What changes are predicted and how are they predicted? What will the major impacts be on Bay Area communities? What actions are proposed/being taken to mitigate detrimental affects? Who is/should be taking these actions? When do these actions need to take place? What are the costs of inaction? How can the building community best respond in the work and public outreach we do?

This presentation will showcase the issue and answer some of these questions through presentations by Will Travis, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC, the state agency that regulates development in the Bay and along its shoreline); Matthew Heberger, the Pacific Institute; and Mark D. Bierman, US Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District.
