ARE REVIEW

AIA San Francisco presents an annual Architectural Registration Exam (ARE) Review for young associates ready to become licensed architects. The comprehensive series is composed of 17 classes that focus on the multiple choice and graphics vignettes. All classes are led by experienced architects and allied professionals who prepare candidates with the basic material covered in each of the exam sections listed below.

Oct. 2 - Schematic Design (9:00am-1 pm)
Instructor: Tatjana Polyakova, RA

Practice laying out building spaces, programming, interior layouts and schematic design.


October 30 - Structural Systems I
Instructor: John Sumnicht, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger
Location: HOK, 1 Bush Street, Suite 200, Rincon Room

A review of statics (force, moment and shear) and Mechanics of Materials (centroids, moment of inertia, stress and strain). Recommended in conjunction with Structural Systems II , III, and IV.


November 2 (6:00pm-8pm) - Structural Systems Graphic Vignette
Instructor: Tatjana Polyakova, RA
Location: AIA San Francisco, 130 Sutter Street, Suite 600
Price: $50 Nonmembers; $25 members

November 6 - Structural Systems II
Instructor: Ken Tam, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger
Location: HOK, 1 Bush Street, Suite 200, Rincon Room

A discussion of timber design (terminology, framing and loads) and steel design (allowable stress, beam and column design and trusses). Recommended in conjunction with Structural Systems I, III, and IV.


November 20 - Structural Systems III
Instructor: Anindya Dutta, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger
Location: HOK, 1 Bush Street, Suite 200, Rincon Room

An evaluation of structural materials and forms such as concrete, reinforcing steel, CMU, masonry, foundations and retaining walls. Recommended in conjunction with Structural Systems I, II , and IV.


December 4 - Structural Systems IV
Instructor: Stephen Harris, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger
Location: HOK, 1 Bush Street, Suite 200, Rincon Room

A study of building forces, such as lateral, vertical, wind and seismic issues. Structural Systems I, II, and III.
