Whole-House Ventilation Systems: Providing Healthy, Comfortable, & Energy Efficient Indoor Climate Solutions (1 HSW)

Whole-House Ventilation has become increasingly important as houses and residential buildings are becoming tighter, making health and safety a critical component of the design process. The need for better ventilation in conjunction with increased energy efficient construction and an understanding about how to meet current Building Codes and Standards is essential. Learn the Pros and Cons of Ventilation System Strategies as it pertains to Indoor Air Quality. Exhaust, Supply, Balanced, Window and Heat Recovery Ventilation will be covered. Learn to plan for healthy, comfortable and energy efficient ventilation solutions.

 


Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the advantages and weaknesses of supply-only, exhaust-only, and balanced ventilation systems
  2. Learn how heat recovery ventilation enables a comfortable and healthy environment
  3. Understand HRV/ERV’s role in building an energy efficient home
  4. Learn how to evaluate and choose the most effective HRV/ERV system


About the Presenter

Andy Wahl started in the Building Science field in 1980, attended Jordan Energy Institute to study Renewable Energy, and Energy Efficiency. He has completed 7,500 plus energy analyses, provided technical support and training for energy auditing staff and consulted on software programs. He has ten years of computer tech support. Certifications: RCS Auditor, HERS, BPI Super Proctor. He and his wife, Cara, own AC Home Performance, Inc. Their home has been retrofitted to Zero Net Energy and is an ongoing research project.
