The Survival and Significance of the Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Studio/Residences | Lecture + Tour February 09, 2010 7:00pm Neutra’s Overway-Schiff House | 2058 Jefferson St, San Francisco CA 94123 (cross street Baker Street) Dr Raymond Richard Neutra, Richard Neutra's youngest son is presenting a lecture at Richard Neutra's 1938 Overway-Schiff House in the Marina District of San Francisco. There will also be a tour of the house by owner and architect Chad Overway. Dr Neutra will talk about the enduring design questions addressed in this experimental live/work compound and the restoration and re-programming efforts by the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona which owns the compound. Dr Neutra is retired Chief, Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control at the California Department of Public Health and is volunteering to help Cal Poly in their efforts. ![]() Photograph by Julius Shulman Van der Leeuw House II: View of roof with Richard Neutra Los Angeles, California, 1966 | Printed 2008 In 2008, Julius Shulman authorized and the Getty Research Institute, which houses the Julius Shulman archive, produced a limited edition of 35 archival digital pigment prints to support the VDL House restoration efforts. The print depicts Richard Neutra sitting on the terrace of the VDL II wing of the compound viewing its cooling water roof. The prints are numbered and signed by Julius Shulman (image 16 x 20 inches; sheet 21 x 24 inches); twice as large as the original 8 x 10 inch photograph taken over 40 years earlier. The prints are priced at $2,000 plus shipping and handling ($75) for the first 15 prints sold, with subsequent prints 16-25 priced at $2,500 and 26-35 at $3,000. This is not a charitable contribution due to the value of these limited edition prints.
