EVENT DETAIL
Tom Kundig in Conversation with Allison Arieff June 11, 2007 5:30 - 7:30 pm AIA SF + AIGA SF 130 Sutter Street, Suite 600 Raised and educated in a tradition of art fabrication, architect Tom Kundig, FAIA, partner in the Seattle-base firm Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects, has earned international acclaim for his sensitivity of both craft and the human experience of space. His work is infused with a reverence for materials and sincerity that elevates often “forgotten” architectural details—doors, windows, stairwells—to prominence in unexpected ways. Also keenly in tune with the interconnection between the landscape, built environment, and people who navigate these spaces, Kundig is well known for integrating kinetic architectural elements into his design. Walls and ceilings open themselves to the outdoors, engaging refined indoor spaces in a playful dialogue with the natural environment. Kundig’s notable depth and creativity has been published in over 220 publications worldwide and in the fall of 2006, Princeton Architectural Press released, Tom Kundig: Houses. To date, Mr. Kundig has received a total of 20 AIA awards, including four recent National AIA awards for The Brain, Chicken Point Cabin, Delta Shelter and the Tye River Cabin. He is also the recipient of a 2007 Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts & Letters and his Delta Shelter Cabin was named a 2006 Record House by Architectural Record. His undergraduate and graduate architecture degrees are from the University of Washington. Join us for an evening of conversation as Tom Kundig and Allison Arieff discuss the direction of architecture in the not so distant future. Allison Arieff is the Senior Content Lead for the global design and innovation firm IDEO, and a columnist for the New York Times. AIA + AIGA Members Free
