Barbara Elfman: Advanced Studies Program Administrator will speak about three programs she oversees at Harvard University GSD. The programs are PhD in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, Doctor of Design and the Master in Design Studies. The three programs offer a varied length of academic studies along with emphasis in unique pedagogy. The PhD is a true academic program usually 6-7 years in length that prepares the candidate to teach in at a college or university. The Doctor of Design uses applied research, is 3 years in length and the graduates often go on to professional, academic or a combination of the two roles. The Master in Design Studies is a 3 semester program which has four areas of concentration in History and Theory, Design and Technology, Real Estate and Project Management and Urbanization and Housing. Not only would a student in any of these programs have access to all the courses at the GSD, but also all the schools at Harvard as well as MIT and the Fletcher School at Tufts. This is truly an opportunity to create the arena of study that suits the student.
