SAN FRANCISCO LIVING: HOME TOURS

For more information, please download the Home Tours Information Sheet.

Criteria
Members and nonmembers of AIA San Francisco are encouraged to submit their projects, however preference is given to architects currently affiliated with the chapter. Projects are judged by a committee of Bay Area based architects on the following dimensions: quality of design, innovative use of materials, and thoughtful integration with the neighborhood context. The committee is particularly interested in seeing projects that exhibit sustainable features. All decisions will be based on the materials submitted.

Eligibility
For the San Francisco Living: Home Tours weekend, projects must be located in San Francisco County. The committee will not consider projects outside of the region. Projects based in Marin County are eligible for inclusion in our Marin Living: Home Tours.

Requirements

  • Firms MUST obtain approval by the project’s homeowner(s) prior to submitting it for consideration. AIA Home Tours have become extremely popular in recent years, with as many as 500 visitors each day. It is important that homeowners feel comfortable with showcasing their residences in advance of the selection process. Note that all homes are fully insured and multiple, trained docents are placed within each room of each property.
  • Design teams are asked to be on hand throughout the day of the tour to answer questions.
  • The design team and/or firm principal must be available to participate in companion events, for example the Architect’s Forum (date and time TBD).

Project Visits
AIA staff members and the Home Tours Committee will visit short-listed projects throughout February, March, and April 2012.

Notes

  • If your firm’s project is not selected for 2012, it will be automatically resubmitted for consideration in the 2013 tour program unless we are notified.
  • Emailed and/or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

Submission Deadline: Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 5pm
Successful applicants will be notified in April 2012.
