Buckminster Fuller | 2011 Festival Theme Developed in collaboration with the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI), “Architecture of Consequence” is the theme for this year’s festival. By selecting this theme, the festival hopes to demonstrate how progressive design and creative problem solving can address society’s current challenges and lead to a more sustainable future. Submit a Program Idea AIA San Francisco invites individuals, design practices, companies and cultural institutions to illustrate how they are working in novel ways to inspire a more sustainable future with a program that explores some of our most pressing urban issues, including food, space, health, social cohesion, energy and time. Program Requirements Submissions that explore the way architects or projects thoughtfully impact community and reflect issues of sustainability will be given first preference. Ideas should address how progressive design and creative problem solving contribute to improving our unique quality of life. Programs must take place in San Francisco or Marin counties only. Program Types Submissions should explore architecture / design in novel ways that engage and inspire the public imagination. Programming ideas should address one or more of the themes examined by the Architecture of Consequence exhibition. Specifically, we seek ideas for behind-the-scenes events, innovative tours, interactive workshops, lectures, collaborative discussions and debates, and activities that engage multiple senses such as performances, tastings, exhibitions or other participatory events. Successful proposals will demonstrate the variety of ways design enhances our lives and inspire creative civic engagement. Click here to view the 2010 selected programs. Deadline The submission deadline is Friday, June 9, 2011 to ensure inclusion in our print Architecture and the City festival guide. Contributing Sponsorship (Applicable to Corporate Businesses Only) Please note that any/ all applicants that do not qualify as an individual, nonprofit organization or cultural institution will be asked to officially sponsor the festival if a submission is accepted, starting at the $1500 Contributing Sponsor level.
