| | “For even as your brain, nerves, heart, lungs and stomach are hidden from view, so it is with the city.” --Harry Granick, Underneath New York, 1947 | 2010 Festival Theme The 2010 festival theme is “Investigating Urban Metabolisms.” With this theme, the festival hopes to take an in-depth look at hidden and emergent systems that generate form, movement, growth and entropy in the city. Submit a Program Idea Every year, Architecture and the City provides an opportunity for individuals, design practices, companies and cultural institutions to celebrate San Francisco's unique built environment and their contribution towards it. Program Requirements Program ideas are encouraged to explore how the city is organized via information systems, ecological systems, building systems, transportation systems, surveillance systems, life cycle systems, natural systems, and so forth. Additionally, program ideas that explore the way architects or projects thoughtfully impact community and reflect issues of sustainability will be given first preference. Ideas should explore how architecture and design strives to affect change in San Francisco, and should engage public imagination and/or consider ways to improve the public realm. Programs must take place in San Francisco or Marin counties only. Program Types Submissions may explore architectural or urban treasures that reveal the city in new ways and which engage the public imagination. Specifically, we seek ideas for exhibitions, lectures, behind-the-scenes tours, walking tours, hands-on workshops, venue ideas, and more. Click here to view the 2009 selected programs. Deadline The submission deadline is April 9, 2010 (note: this deadline has been extended from April 2, 2010), with applicants notified of final decisions by May 3, 2010. If selected, the festival staff will contact you to begin arranging the details for inclusion in the festival. Contributing Sponsorship (Applicable to Corporate Businesses Only) Please note that any/all businesses that do not qualify as a nonprofit organization or a cultural institution will be asked to officially sponsor the festival if a submission is accepted, starting at the $1500 Contributing Sponsor level. For questions contact Erin Cullerton at ecullerton@aiasf.org or 415.362.3948. NOTE: Only fully completed submission forms will be considered. |
