Interior Architecture

Citation Award: California Academy of Sciences Transition Facility

Richard Barnes
Richard Barnes

Reuse, transition and efficiency are the central themes for this temporary home for a leading science museum and aquarium. The design blends new systems with components from the original facility in a way that conserves resources, creates an engaging environment and builds anticipation about the institution’s future Golden Gate Park home. The jury noted: this kid-friendly place doesn’t pander to children, rather it presents a careful and thoughtful approach, far beyond what you might expect in a transitional facility.
