MEMBERSHIP IN OUR CHAPTER
Founded in 1881 and over 125 years old, AIA San Francisco today represents more than 2,300 architects and related professionals in San Francisco, Marin County and surrounding areas. We are the largest chapter in California and the third largest chapter in the country. Our programs, events, classes, publications, gallery shows, and networking opportunities are unparalleled in the region.
Joining the AIA San Francisco gives you access to a local network of leaders and innovators eager to share information and exchange ideas to help you enhance your career and your practice. By becoming a member of our chapter, you join a broad network of professionals who are improving the practice of architecture, giving voice to planning and historic-preservation issues in our city, engaging in professional development and career activities, and educating the general public about the significance of architecture.
Membership in the AIA also gives you representation. The AIA's three-tiered membership structure gives architects a powerful voice in the formation of laws and regulations that directly affect the practice of architecture at local, state and national levels. (All Architect and Associate AIA members are required to join all 3 tiers.)
In addition to lobbying on your behalf, the AIA keeps you informed about practice trends and industry news through a variety of publications online and off. National, state and local websites keep the AIA's 70,000 members in the public eye, raising awareness about architecture and helping clients connect with the right architects.
