Course Title: Programming and Space Planning II

Course Description: This course covers the exploration of the theoretical basis and methodology used in the arrangement and development of interior space. Students will investigate project needs including function, special requirements, adjacencies, objectives and trends. The schematic phase of design, alternate design solutions and visual and verbal design vocabulary necessary to communicate design schemes will be covered. This is a benchmark class that will include a student progress assessment.

Course Competencies:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

· To be able to identify client needs and program parameters.

· To conceptualize and formulate alternative design solutions.

· To develop and refine comprehensive design concepts.

· To produce working drawings and design specifications.

· To prepare design development documents and presentation material.

· To utilize presentation techniques and materials to communicate design solutions.

Course Title: Residential Design – Contemporary

Course Description:

Design studio involving the process of programming and designing an upscale contemporary residential space. Emphasis is on special interior details.

Course Competencies: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Utilize a detailed questionnaire to develop a program for a residential project. Custom design high-end detailing of various components for specialty areas in today’s residence such as home theaters, offices, and/or design for new technology. Prepare space plans and elevations based on specific requirements as determined in the program.
